History

1966

Established as “San-Abbott,” a joint venture between Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd. and Abbott USA.

1967

Succeeded in the creation and industrialization of DBU, the world’s first organic super strong base. Efforts begin to pioneer usage methods.

1970

Developed the U-CAT SA Series (DBU salts). Market development began for the products as urethane catalysts and epoxy curing accelerators.

1986

Overseas parent company changes to Air Products and Chemicals, Inc., and the company name was altered to San-Apro.

1998

Investigations began regarding technologies and markets for new products to replace DBU.Photoacid generator developed.

2003

The CPI-100P and 101A photoacid generators (for photo cationic polymerization initiations) were introduced to the market. Efforts began to introduce these products to the can paint and optical modeling resin markets.

2007

The high-activity, non-Sb CPI-200K product was developed and efforts began to introduce it into the marketplace.

2010

The highly i line sensitive CPI-300 series of product are developed and enter the electronic materials market.

2016

The company celebrated its 50th anniversary. Sales of photoacid generators steadily increase, and the business progresses in its transition.

2017

Parent company changed to Evonik Industries AG in January of this year.

San-Apro Activity Fields

Since the company was established in 1966, we have built a product group centered on the DBU super strong base. This product group is used as a raw material in pharmaceutical intermediates, as a urethane adhesive, and as a catalyst for various epoxy sealants. In these capacities the DBU group of products has been used for many years in the housing materials market.
In addition, in 1998 we developed the photoacid generator, and entered the can painting and stereolithography resin markets. Afterward our fields of activity have expanded into the electric and electronic materials market in the areas of display-related medicals and various resist catalysts

Our business is expanding not only in Japan but also in South Korea, Taiwan, China, Europe and the United States. We will continue to work to improve customer satisfaction through our company’s group network in areas including but not limited to smooth technology service provision and local production at locations close to the market.

Achievements in the Field of Photochemicals

We have built up many achievements with photo cationic polymerization curing systems for painting in can manufacturing and with resins for laser etching. Currently we also have experience in display-related chemicals such as liquid crystal, organic EL and various resist materials.
In particular, in the field of electronic materials we introduce the optimum catalysts when systems are moved from heat to photo energy, such as from thermal to UV curing.

San-Apro Development Environment

Our research center is located at the Katsura Research Laboratory of Sanyo Chemical Industries, Ltd., located in the Katsura Innovation Park adjacent to Kyoto University’s Katsura Campus. The research laboratory functions as a creative base for new industry-university-government collaborative industry creation. We engage in energetic exchanges with Kyoto University as well as a wide range of companies and public institutions.
